About
Studio Arts Connection grew out of my art business Sharon Bedford Designs. My goal is to pass on some of the knowledge that I have gained during my lifetime.
Because I am gifted by the love of God’s grace as an artist and accepting that He made me to be an artist has taken a while and now I know that it is His will that I pass on what I have learned.
I found it hard to give Him my “yes” as I like my freedom to just play and do art, but He said it was time to give to my community. Therefore, Studio Arts Connection was born.
This is all about the passing on of fun things to do and making connections along the way. I tend to dive deep into subjects, so I hope I can help others get satisfaction with their project quicker than I did.
Here’s a little about my journey; My wearable fiber art stems from a desire to make beautiful garments for color and texture lovers. I am intrigued and challenged by designing patterns in modules and blocks to get a watercolor like effect from long color change yarns. I was taking a yarn as a finished product and trying to make my own “art” from someone else’s art.
Every design is inspired by opening a bag of yarn with colors that I love and deciding what stitches I want to use with that weight of yarn. Intricate lace stitches with finer yarn, or a modular stitch pattern for the heavier yarns. They all come out one-of-a-kind since the yarns are always a bit different and the way I assemble the finish piece is different for each garment no matter which color or yarn, I choose as a medium. Each one is inspired by my love of color and texture.
Some time earlier my parents were rockhounds and that started me on a journey of making jewelry. I also dove deep there and took classes in fabricating silver, casting gold and silver with lost wax and working with beads to make wonderfully bohemian jewelry pieces. I added a Graduate Gemologist and Accredited Jewelry Professional from GIA to top it off. Maybe I’m an overachiever…
I hope that wraps up what this adventure is about at Studio Arts Connection.
